A Perfected State 2001

While still painting in 1999, Ms Solondz began working with the material salt.  She incorporated salt into some of her painted surfaces, as well as making a full size salt throne and a salted table.  This first installation was first shown in 2001, (and later at Real Artways in 2002,) and consisted of 20 pairs of salt encrusted children’s shoes on stacked gold panels.  A salted halo ringed each pair of shoes, including one black pair that was left unsalted.
